Is this really 100% free? What's the catch?
Yes — there are no fees, no subscriptions and no hidden costs. Januam is a non-profit and course access is funded through our partnerships. The only "cost" is your time and commitment.
Do I need a Bildungsgutschein from the Arbeitsagentur or Jobcenter?
No. Our program is completely independent of the Arbeitsagentur and Jobcenter. You don't need approval, a Bildungsgutschein, or any paperwork from public offices — and joining does not affect your benefits (ALG or Bürgergeld).
Do I need to be unemployed or a registered refugee to apply?
No. The program is designed for refugees, forced migrants, asylum seekers and underserved communities — but anyone with limited access to paid training can apply. Employment status does not matter.
Why do you ask me to upload a document? Is my data safe?
We ask for one simple ID or residence document only to confirm program eligibility. Your data is stored securely, processed in line with GDPR, never shared with authorities, and deleted after verification. (We teach a GDPR course — we hold ourselves to it.)
My German is weak. Can I still join?
Yes. Courses are available in English and several support simple language. If German is your main barrier, choose the German for Work pathway — it exists exactly for this.
Am I too old to start? I'm over 50.
There is no age limit. Many of our learners are restarting their careers at 40, 50 and beyond. Courses are self-paced and beginner-friendly.
Will I get a certificate German employers recognise?
Yes. You receive verifiable certificates from Coursera, DataCamp or Januam Academy that you can add to your CV and LinkedIn profile. Employers can verify them online.
How much time do I need each week?
Courses are fully online and self-paced. Most learners progress well with 3–5 hours per week, and you can pause whenever life demands it.
